Luna HR started with a simple observation: most HR software is built for enterprises. The platforms that dominate the market — BambooHR, HiBob, Personio — are designed for companies with hundreds of employees, dedicated HR departments, and the budget to match.
But the majority of UK businesses aren't that. They're 20-person logistics companies, 50-person construction firms, growing agencies with three offices. They need real HR tools — not a spreadsheet, but not a £10k/year enterprise suite either.
The gap we saw
When a 30-person haulage company looks for HR software, they find two options: free tools that handle the basics (leave requests, maybe an employee directory) or enterprise platforms that require a three-month implementation and charge per-employee-per-month for features they'll never use.
There's nothing in the middle. Nothing that says: here's leave management, expenses, and training — pay for what you need, skip what you don't, and add more when you grow.
Modular by design
Luna HR is built as independent modules that share a common foundation. The core platform gives you employee profiles, org structure, onboarding, and permissions. Then you add the modules your business actually needs.
A construction company might want assets, training, and expenses. A healthcare provider might want leave, wellness, and security awareness. A professional services firm might want performance, recruitment, and reports. Each combination works — because the modules are designed to stand alone and work together.
Built for the UK
Luna HR is purpose-built for UK businesses. That means HMRC AMAP mileage rates, UK bank holidays, working time regulations, and GDPR compliance aren't afterthoughts — they're built in from day one.
We use oklch colour tokens, not hex. We say “organisation” not “organization”. We calculate leave in working days, not calendar days. Small things, but they add up to a product that feels like it was built here — because it was.
What's next
We're launching with eleven modules: leave, expenses, training, security awareness, performance, wellness, assets, recruitment, filing cabinet, reports, and Luna AI. Each one is production-ready and used by real teams.
If you're running a growing UK business and your current HR “system” is a mix of spreadsheets, email, and good intentions — we built Luna HR for you.
